Artistic Vision & Process
Oakey is widely recognized as a modern abstract impressionist artist whose work is deeply rooted in emotional and mythical expression. His paintings and mixed-media works often move beyond literal representation, inviting viewers to experience color, texture, and form as vehicles for inner reflection. His art reflects over five decades of experimentation with diverse media, surfaces, and techniques.
One of the defining characteristics of Oakey’s artistic process is his fascination with materials. He enjoys incorporating found objects, textiles, fabrics, pigments, and various types of paint into his compositions. These materials are layered and combined to create surfaces rich in texture and meaning. Each piece becomes a visual narrative that reflects fragments of personal history, cultural heritage, and spiritual insight.
Working from his studio in Houston, Oakey continues to explore the boundaries between abstraction and emotional storytelling. His studio practice is both experimental and intuitive, allowing him to merge traditional painting methods with unconventional materials and techniques. The result is artwork that feels both contemporary and deeply personal.
Over the years, his artworks have been collected and appreciated by private collectors, art enthusiasts, and clients across the globe. Many admire the spiritual energy and expressive freedom present in his compositions. Beyond the visual arts, Oakey’s interests in writing, filmmaking, and preaching reflect his broader commitment to communication, storytelling, and community engagement.
Today, Oakey Chikere Ugboaja remains devoted to his lifelong artistic journey. His work stands as a testament to perseverance, creativity, and the transformative power of art— bridging cultures, histories, and experiences through bold abstract expression.
